7 Buying Mistakes if You’re Hiring a Business Coach #7

Mistake #7 Confusing coaching with …
Coaching is not mentoring. Coaching is not advice giving. Coaching is not consulting. Coaching is not counselling. Coaching is not paying someone to belly ache and vent with.

Coaching – well my brand of coaching anyway – is client-centred, solution focused and action-orientated. This means in most cases I am using proven coaching skills to help YOU generate the solution YOU need – even if I’ve got a much better solution in mind. Rarely is that helpful because solution-giving creates co-dependency on the coach which ultimately destroys any benefit of coaching.

If you’d be better served by a counsellor, I’ll suggest that.

Tip: A good coach will help you get clear on what else you need as well as or instead of coaching.
